Hot Dog from Street Vendor: This is a stock photo, not an actual dog from the street vendor in Newton Falls. As you might have noticed we have a new place to grab a dog in Newton Falls, close to the car wash, and across the street from Hometown Hotdogs. Apparently this new business has drawn some controversy, especially from the proprietor of Hometown Hot Dogs, Bob Ward. Or so says a story from the Tribune Chronicle.
Apparently his "beef" with the stand is that it costs him a lot more to run his business in Newton Falls than it does for this seasonal vendor to open shop for a couple of months. When hot dogs are your business, every sandwich counts. I, for one, can definitely see his point.
Perhaps the city's idea to charge more for these types of permits will help, but why not do more for one of our established businesses? After all Hometown Hotdogs does more than just sell tasty snacks. I've seen their name on more than one sports jersey, and they've participated in city events like the Chili Cookoff, which helps draw visitors to our sleepy little town.
What do you think? Post a comment, and voice your opinion. Or better yet, post your view and then stop into Bob's shop and order up a couple of chili's with everything and a chili-cheese fry. Yum!
