Guns in our school?

Guns In SchoolAccording to a recent story in the Trib, there were rumors circulating in the school and on MySpace.com about an 8th grader threatening to take a gun to school and kill "preps".

Principal Crowder informed the NFPD and they appear to be dealing with it in a suitable fashion. This is not the first gun scare in recent years. In 2004 a 15 year olf student took a small caliber gun to school in her bookbag. She received a year in juvenile detention.

Is this strict enough punishment for endangering the lives of our kids? Or is this just status quo for our society in general? This sort of thing scares the bejeezus out of me and gives me the willies.
